Supply chain management is an interesting and crucial field in today‘s competitive business world. Especially as the outsourcing and globalization of an organization’s operations become prevalent, the significance and complexity of supply chain management have substantially increased.
Along with the impact of e-commerce on collaborations among the supply chain entities, many organizations are forced to take a new perspective to look at their supply chain strategies to efficiently utilize the resources and hence improve the supply chain performance. Therefore, it‘s natural that the interest in supply chain management has grown explosively, both in academia and industry.
Although many organizations have been motivated to analyze their supply chains, much of this work has been done based on experience and intuition. Even with the use of analytical models, the accessibility and usability of these tools to assist with supply chain management are problematic. With this in mind, the objective of this book is to bridge the gap by presenting elemental supply chain management strategies and insights in order to aid in establishing a competitive advantage. This book is focused on providing students with an understanding of basic concepts, models, methodologies and analytical tools to solve supply chain problems in an accessible manner.
Supply chain management is a fast-updating field covering a variety of areas, so it would be impossible for this book to cover all relevant areas in depth. Still, we try to offer an introduction to the essential topics of supply chain management. Although many issues are interrelated and decisions are usually made simultaneously rather than consecutively, in this book, we have strived to follow a linear path through the complex supply chain management web and to make each chapter as self-contained as possible.
The framework of this book is organized into nine chapters: the context of supply chain management, network design, demand forecasting, inventory management, supply chain coordination, sourcing and procurement, supply chain contracts, transportation strategy, and revenue management. Each chapter covers some of the most important decisions made in any organization. Furthermore, this book incorporates numerous examples and cases of leading-edge organizations to strengthen readers’ problem-formulation skills and illustrate the concepts. Therefore, we endeavor to make the book an interesting read and give you a head start in your career. Also, by limiting the size of the book, we have condensed the material to the basics of supply chain management.
This book is intended as an introduction for students, including senior undergraduate students and those pursuing an MBA, who are interested in supply chain management, logistics, or general business analysis. Also, this book could serve as a suitable textbook or reference for teachers, consultants, or practitioners in the field of supply chain management.
The features of this book are as follows:
? This book is an introduction to supply chain management, and no previous knowledge or experience of management is required.
? Take a high-level view, considering all kinds of organizations and products.
? Concentrate on the most basic aspects of supply chain management.
? Introduce ideas in a straightforward manner.
? Learning Objectives at the beginning of chapters clarify the aims and focus of each chapter.
? Discussion Questions are designed to review concepts and show their applicability in reality.
We really hope this book will be helpful in your research and career.
