序
20世纪80年代初。
乔家院子——一个极具民族传统建筑风格的民居小院。
全剧从20世纪80年代初到整个20世纪90年代的故事就发生在这儿。随着时间推移，远景需不断呈现具有时代特征的新建筑群。而由一面矮砖墙半遮半掩在小院角落的一个下水道疏导井，却多年未变……
月色溶溶，烛光闪闪。
一群年轻人围着烛光翩翩起舞。同学们在祝贺乔雪梅十九岁生日，同时也在祝贺她考上重点大学。

PROLOGUE
(The early 1980s.
The courtyard of the Qiao family， constructed in traditional architectural style.
The action of the play unfolds from the early 1980s through to the 1990s. As time goes by， modern buildings spring up in the vicinity.
Meanwhile， an open sewer remains in the corner of the yard hidden behind a short brick wall.
In the moonlight and to the light of candles， some youths are dancing.
Qiao Xuemei’s classmates are celebrating her 19th birthday as well as congratulating her on her admission to a top university.)
