At a ceremony marking the centenary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on July 1, 2021, General Secretary Xi Jinping solemnly declared: We have completed a moderately prosperous society in all respects in China. Moderate prosperity is the ideal state of life that the Chinese nation has been pursuing since times antique. Since the very day of its founding, the Party has made seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation its aspiration and mission. At the beginning of reform and opening up in the late 1970s, the Party Central Committee put forward the strategy of building a moderately prosperous society. Through the continued efforts of the whole Party and all the Chinese people, we have realized the first centenary goal of completing a moderately prosperous society in all respects. We are now marching in confident strides toward the second centenary goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects.
