This book traces the growth of Shenyang Blower Works (SBW), a state-owned enterprise based in Northeast China from the time of the founding of the People''s Republic of China to the present day Using data from interviews with some of the original founders and workers at SBW, the author weaves together vivid and inspiring stories of SBW and its people. The author skillfully describes the challenging and difficult road of SBW''s development and growth which initially started with producing imitations of machinery developed by foreign manufacturers to developing its own core technologies, thus moving from a mode of "Made in China" to the mode of "Created by China." The author also adroitly captures how SBW designed and developed the world''s most sophisticated 1,OOOKTA ethylene compressors, long-distance pipeline compressors, and i00,000 Nm3h air separation compressors.

On the morning of March 13, 2018, the Great Hall of the People in Beijing became the focus of national attention.
At 8: 00 a.m., in the deputies'' passage to the central hall, lights from cameras and cell phones flashed on Dai Jishuang''s face, a man in his fifties.
Perhaps it was his first time having for him to take an interview in China''s largest press conference hall. Furthermore, he was more used to wearing work clothes in sky blue than wearing a formal suit. In any case, the shy smile on his face was immediately covered with calmness.
At first, Dai crossed his hands on his chest. Looking around and seeing that the two representatives around him had precisely the same posture, he uncrossed his hands and let them hang down on either side of his body.
He did so because he realized that his image would be instantly spread to every corner of the world. But so what? He had another thought. He wanted to be different from the representatives around him, who were mostly government officials.
Standing before the representatives, he thought of Shenyang Blower Works Group Corporation (Shengu), where he had worked with other researchers for many years developing the core technology for compressors, and where there were over 7, 000 employees.
Now as reporters stretched their microphones before him, Dai was immediately forced to speak, as if the switch of a compressor had been turned on.
