本书稿由上海中国航海博物馆提供，为《国家航海》系列的第二十四辑， 收录了13篇学术论文。本辑论文的主题围绕造船技术展开，其中既有中国古代造船技术的传承研究，也有近代造船和海军发展的论述，还有有关一九四九年以来造船领域研究成果的综述，可以说反映了当前造船技术研究领域的*成果。

中国航海博物馆China Maritime Museum是我国首个经国务院批准设立的国家级航海博物馆，是由国家交通运输部、中国人民解放军海军、国家文物局和上海市人民政府共同支持建设的中国唯一的国家级航海博物馆。位于上海浦东临港新城。2006年1月20日在临港新城滴水湖举行中国航海博物馆工程开工奠基仪式，2010年7月5日全面建成开放。其负责主办的《国家航海》系列是该馆重点的图书出版项目，已出版二十三辑。
