Yang Zhen was a famous scholar of the Eastern Han dynasty. He insisted on studying, thinking education would change peoples lives. He followed Confucius and opened schools, and cultivated many talented people. Once his student wanted to thank him and paid him a visit in the evening and prepared gold for him. Yang Zhen dejected, but the student said there was no one to know it. Yang Zhen said that even there was nobody present; there were still the Heaven, the Earth, your conscious and mine. How can you say nobody knows? The student left with the gold. Because of his righteousness, Yang Zhen offended many people; even the emperor disliked him because he pointed the faults of the emperor many times. He lost his position, and wronged by the people he offended. He committed suicide to prove his innocence.
