2018年教育部、农业农村部、国家林业和草原局发布了《关于加强农科教结合实施卓越农林人才教育培养计划 2.0的意见》,其中提出要紧紧围绕乡村振兴战略和生态文明建设,坚持产学研协作,建设中国特色、世界水平的一流农林专业;要创新农林人才培养模式,推进教学方法改革,实施探究式、讨论式等多种教学方法,促进学生的批判性思维和创新意识的培养;开展以能力为导向的多元评价,突I出对学生学习能力、实践能力和创新能力的考核,建立多样化的学业指导和考核评价体系。中国高等教育已经从规模扩张转到内涵发展的轨道之上,面对新科技革命和产业革命的时代浪潮,我们应该超前识变、积极应变、主动求变。
卓越农林人才的培养离不开农林学科领域专业国际化知识,必须具备的关键素质应该包括:宽广的国际化视野、扎实的本专业国际化知识、熟悉和掌握国际惯例、较强的跨文化沟通能力和独立的国际活动能力。因此,帮助学生提高专业领域内的英语交流能力,即学术英语能力,是新时代高校公共外语教学的一项不可推卸的重要责任,而这种能力必须经过系统的学习和训练才能提高。本教材可以帮助学生提高在学科领域进行国际交流的外语能力,切实提高本科生使用英语从事学术活动的能力,为培养未来卓越农林人才奠定学科英语基础。
本教材共有 8个单元,涉及林业、城市农业、生物多样性、生态系统和园林规划等方面。每个单元包括三篇阅读文章,内容和话题具有较高的相关性,选材兼顾专业性和趣味性,避免太过专业化和艰涩的文章。第一篇为概述、背景介绍类文章;第二篇为本单元话题涉及的相关问题、热点话题类文章;第三篇为与最新技术、未来展望相关的文章。另外包括 23篇听力,围绕各单元主题,锻炼学术听力和演讲技能。通过本教材的学习,学生可以掌握以下 3种技能:
(1)学术阅读技能:能够读懂英语阅读专业文献;
(2)学术写作技能:掌握国际通用学术规范,能够使用英语撰写符合规范的摘要和总结,转述他人观点,甚至撰写英文学术论文;
(3)学术听说技能:能够听懂英文授课、讲座并记笔记,能够使
II用英语宣读论文,陈述演示研究成果,参加学术讨论。通用学术英语教学是大学英语教学的重要组成部分。本教材结合农林类专业方面的科普知识和通用学术英语技能,为学生过渡到学习专门用途学术英语做好语言和专业知识储备。本教材的重点在于培养学生汲取信息、处理信息和表达信息的能力。在注重语言技能培养的同时,注重把学术英语素养(如文献搜索、查找资料、引用规范、转述、撰写摘要等)和语言交际能力的培养结合起来。本教材既适用于农林类高等院校老师课堂教学和学生课下学习,也适用于从事农林相关工作的科技人员进行自学。需要注意的是,书中每个单元 Part E听力部分的音视频可以通过手机扫描对应二维码进行在线收听、收看或下载。其中 TED演讲相关视频,在相应位置附有相关演讲者姓名及演讲题目。读者可上网访问 TED官网www.ted.com,在站内搜索对应视频进行在线收看。
