In the 70 years since the founding of the People''s Republic of China, the country
has grown from being closed and backward to one that has opened up and
progressed. It has grown from a nation lacking in food and clothing to one that
enjoys a moderately prosperous level of development. From a poor and weak
country to a thriving and strong nation, China is creating humankind''s "Chinese
miracle". The Communist Party of China has led the Chinese people on this
"Chinese road", riding on the achievements of industrious and intelligent people
who are realizing the Chinese dream.
Telling the China story well and presenting a true, complete and comprehensive
picture of China to the world is incumbent on every global communications
professional in these times. As a strong visual medium, news photography is
exceptionally suited to international communication. It records events accurately
and truthfully, crossing linguistic and other borders. News photos paint a picture
of a vivid China and tell the remarkable story of its development, proving the old
adage "a picture is worth a thousand words".
China Daily emerged from the country''s groundbreaking waves of reform and
opening-up, and has grown into a global multimedia brand in the past 38 years.
Its journalists have documented and presented the Chinese miracle in words
and photos. China Daily''s photographers continue this fine tradition and press
on in that role. In recent years, they have been innovating with ways of visual
expression. The images in this book are from the photo column series A Moment
In Time. The juxtaposition of old and new pictures presents facets of people''s

comparison. The abundant resources we have are fully utilized to record various
