梅布尔出生于英国伦敦东区的一个大家庭，父亲脾气有点古怪、过于严格。她的童年缺点温暖，从早期作品里可以看出她对亲情和快乐的渴望。她16岁时就卖出了第一幅画作，挣钱继续接受教育。后来她与一位艺术家结婚，育有两子一女。女儿佩吉是梅布尔创作的原形，给她带来了无尽的灵感。
