美国政府印刷局和牛津大学出版社均使用本规则。
但也有例外,以-es或-is结尾的古代专有名词的所有格是只在其词尾加'',例如:Jesus的所有格为Jesus''(耶稣的),for conscience'' sake(看在良知的份上),for righteousness'' sake(看在正义的份上)。然而,诸如Achilles'' heel(致命的要害), Moses'' laws(摩西的律法), Isis'' temple(伊希斯的神庙)等表达一般会写为:

伊希斯神庙
代词所有格,如hers, its, theirs, yours, oneself后不加撇号。
规则2. 三个或三个以上的并列项之间,除最后两个用连词连接外,其余均须用逗号隔开
例如:
red, white, and blue

gold, silver, or copper
金、银或铜
He opened the letter, read it, and made a note of its contents.
