Sixty years is just a moment in human history, but in the history of Chinas development, it is a period of total change during which the Chinese armed forces have grown along with the growth of the Peoples Republic. Over the sixty years, guided by the overall national foreign policies and by the military strategy of active defense, the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army has always been taking as one of its major tasks the maintenance of world peace and the promotion of commondevelopment, and with its positive participation in international security cooperation with other armed forces in the world, has been endeavoring to create a peaceful, stable and cooperative win-win international security environment of equality and mutual trust.Whether greeting colleagues from neighboring countries along the long order-defense line, or participating in multinational combined military exercises in lofty green mountains; whether going abroad for the first time for participation in UN peace-keeping operations, or engaging in joint escort operations with other navies on the vast Gulf of Aden; whether staying home to embrace professional military trainees from other countries, or setting foot overseas to learn from other militaries around the world; whether unveiling Chinas mysterious strategic missile command center by opening to foreign military visitors the Headquarters of the Second Artillery Corps for the first time, or officially establishing the MOD news spokesman... the Chinese armed forces are becoming increasingly confident, transparent, rational and robust.The Chinese character 武, which reads wu and means military in English, consists of two radicals： 止 reading zhi and meaning stop and 戈 reading ge and meaning stagger-axe and standing for war. In such sense, the Chinese armed forces are not only the Impregnable Great Wall of Chinas national defense, but also the backbone force of maintaining the world peace. Nowadays, a historical change has taken place in the relationship between China and the world, where the development of China has been intertwined with that of the world, and China and the world are sharing more and more indispensable common interests. The security of China is not independent of a peaceful world, and the security of the world calls for the active participation by China. Along with the increasingly improved comprehensive national strength and international status of China, as well as her continuously expanded national interests, the Chinese military needs to participate in international security affairs more positively, respond to non-traditional global security challenges more flexibly and strengthen the military security cooperation with other armed forces with more practical measures. In the process of building a harmonious world, the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army will inevitably be greeting a more brilliant future!
Collected in the PLA Archives were over 1,500,000 full copies of files from the Chinese Peoples Volunteer Army, the Central Military Commission, PLA General Staff Headquarters as well as the PLA field armies around the Korea War. According to the results of the preliminary general survey, more than 100 copies among them were found to be relevant to the whereabouts of the US missing personnel. As of October 2009, the PLA Archives had provided the US with the first group of results including four military files, although only one tenth of the existing files were accounted for.This is not a simple military cooperation, but a humanitarian operation that comforts countless families who lost their relatives. Such cooperation reflexes the respect and understanding of the Chinese people and armed forces for human rights, and their incerity in humanitarian care.
