本书与《圣经人名词典》《圣经地名词典》为一套系。对417个来自《圣经》的特殊语汇，如“圣诞节”“最后的晚餐”等，进行整理，根据《圣经》及有关资料注释它们的意义，必要时提供其希伯来文或希腊文的原意，并列举《圣经》中与这一词意有关的主要章节内容。本书不仅对基督教经典具有解读意义、是一本工具书，同时，其以文学资料之生动、史实资料之严谨，对西方文学作品中常见的语汇和典故做出了来源可靠的探析。读者无论是否信众，都能从本书中了解到圣经文化的细节与渊源。
本书是再版书，此次出版，作者对部分内容做了修订，作者在国内的侄子边勇与教会人士比照最新版的和合本圣经进行了核查，使其引文更符合现代汉语规范，我社重新进行了三审，补充了再版序言及作者手稿照片。

| 關於作者： |

白云晓，原名边云波，1925年出生于河北省。1944年考取由清华大学、北京大学、南开大学组成的昆明西南联合大学和重庆的中央大學。因经济困难无法前往昆明，便保留了西南联合大学的学籍，就读于中央大学教育系。其后断续从事教育工作。20世纪80年代，在天津教育学院任教时，将《学记》译为英文；并出版《耶稣是谁》等书。1995年后定居于美国，现已九十高龄，仍常祷望：愿上帝佑我中华。
